Process
The pool deck resurfacing process can vary depending on the resurfacing material you’ve selected. For our example, we’ll describe one of our customers’ more popular choices: stamped concrete overlays. The first step in the process is the cleaning and inspection of the existing deck for damage. If any damage is present, we’ll need to repair it before moving to the next step of the process. This step doesn’t change regardless of the material you’ve chosen. Once repairs are complete, we can move on to the next phase of resurfacing your pool deck, which is surface preparation.
The surface prep for your pool deck is crucial as it determines how well the overlay adheres to your existing concrete.
We’ll grind it with a floor grinder fitted with a diamond grinding wheel to prep the surface. Aside from ensuring that the overlay adheres to the existing concrete properly, the rough grind will remove any smaller imperfections in your deck, such as dents or unlevel spots. After the surface prep, we can mix and pour the overlay. It will be applied directly over your existing deck and smoothed out. As it begins to cure, we can apply the stamped pattern. This involves several stamps using the imprint of your choosing, ranging from brick to stone to wood. This process is fast and must be completed before the concrete has time to completely set. After the stamp is finished, the overlay will need some hours to cure, and we’ll apply the sealer. The concrete sealer is designed to protect your pool deck from the constant exposure to water and pool chemicals that it will be subject to. Not to mention, the sealer protects against the harsh weather as well. The sealer takes only a few hours to dry. With the sealer dry, your newly resurfaced pool deck is ready for regular use once again!
